FM «Thirteen» 2022 (Frontiers Music) Review – English Below

La máquina no se detiene para Steve Overland y cía., ¡porque tenemos nuevo lanzamiento de FM!!!

Overland no para de editar discos, tanto en formato solista, o de proyecto (Groundbreaker), o en este caso, con su banda cabecera.

Bajo el nombre nada original de “Thirteen”, pero con una linda foto como tapa, la banda nos presenta al sucesor de “Synchronized”, un disco que me gustó mucho y sigo escuchando regularmente hasta hoy.

Mas allá de las opiniones, todo lo que hace Overland me gusta mucho, y de esa manera, uno carece de objetividad, ¡pero haremos lo posible para que no se note!

Con el arranque a medio tiempo de “Shaking The Tree”, vamos a notar que hay un acercamiento a lo que hacían en los ochenta, en cuanto al sonido, cosa que se repetirá en “Just Got Started”, pero no en todos los temas, ya que en “Waiting On Love”, escuchamos una progresión natural de lo que vienen haciendo en estos últimos discos.

“Talk Is Cheap” suena mucho al tema “Synchronized” del tema anterior en las estrofas, con una vuelta en el estribillo que nos lleva a otra dirección, sin perder atractivo.

El line up actual de la banda, que se mantiene desde el 2008, suena totalmente bien ensamblado, lo que no es poco en estos tiempos y se compone de Merv Goldsworthy en el bajo, Pete Jupp en batería, Jem Davis en teclados y Jim Kirkpatrick en guitarras.

Llega “Love And War”, y tal como dice el título, se notan dos partes en el tema, una tranquila y otra mas agresiva. Una mezcla perfecta, un puente exquisito, para otro hit.

¿Podemos arriesgarnos a decir que FM no falla nunca? Yo creo que si. Porque el disco sigue con la balada “Long Road Home”, y es todo lo que necesitamos de esta banda. Satisfacción ultra garantizada.

Para el final tenemos “Fight Fire With Fire”, en la que Overland vuelve a hipnotizar con su voz y “Be True To Yourself”, y vaya que estos 5 músicos lo son, con semejante disco en este 2022 que en apenas dos meses nos ha dado muy buenos lanzamientos.

Como dije previamente, FM no falla, así que no dejes pasar este lanzamiento si no quieres ser castigado por los dioses del Melodic Rock.

With the half-time start of “Shaking The Tree”, we are going to notice that there is an approach to what they did in the eighties, in terms of sound, something that will be repeated in “Just Got Started”, but not in all the songs. , since in “Waiting On Love”, we hear a natural progression of what they have been doing in these last albums.

“Talk Is Cheap” sounds a lot like “Synchronized” from the previous song in the verses, with a twist in the chorus that takes us in another direction, without losing its appeal.

The current line up of the band, which has been in place since 2008, sounds totally well put together, which is no small thing these days and is made up of Merv Goldsworthy on bass, Pete Jupp on drums, Jem Davis on keyboards and Jim Kirkpatrick on guitars.

“Love And War” arrives, and as the title says, there are two parts to the song, one quiet and the other more aggressive. A perfect mix, an exquisite bridge, for another hit.

Can we risk saying that FM never fails? I think so. Because the album continues with the ballad “Long Road Home”, and that’s all we need from this band. Ultra satisfaction guaranteed.

For the end we have «Fight Fire With Fire», in which Overland hypnotizes again with his voice and «Be True To Yourself», and boy are these 5 musicians, with such an album in this 2022 that in just two months we He has given very good pitches.
