En la Música, siempre hubo nuevas modas a las que llamaban “Olas”. Nuevas olas, que no dejaban de ser nuevas maneras de expresión musical que aparecían en un momento concreto y terminaban por consolidarse y crear un estilo.
Ahora, aquí estamos en el 2.022 con Violet, un joven grupo alemán con voz femenina al frente que debutan y que no quieren, ni pretenden bajarse de una de esas olas que surgieron en los 80’s. Aunque yo creo que Violet surcan 2 olas muy cercanas y en un mismo Mar:
Por un lado, está esa movida New Wave Synth PopRock que podría asimilarlos a grupos conocidos y radiables como The Bangles, Nena, Katrina & the Waves ó Cindy Lauper (lo que vino a ser en España unos Mecano, Olé Olé, Video ó la música de Tino Casal).
Y por otro lado, se manejan de maravilla en el sonido más triunfante y clásico del Hard Melodic Rock comercial y de calidad que hicieron las Vixen, Witness, Romeo’s Daughter, Saraya, Robin Beck ó Lita Ford.
Debo de comentar una apreciación arriesgada y muy personal respecto a esta banda. Creo que sus raíces más profundas se encuentran en influencias anteriores a los artistas ya nombrados, puedo sentir rasgos de los Shocking Blue, de Blondie, de los Fleetwood Mac etapa rock&poppy ó de los Starship de Grace Slick.
Bueno, empezaré con lo primero que uno ve, la portada y el logo. El diseño es elocuente y el concepto está claro y definido, muy retro. Geometría, Galaxia, Estrellas, Planetas y mucho colorido reflejándose en un plano de belleza Violeta.
Me siento tele transportado desde el primer segundo, parece que va a sonar un tema de Europe y abren con una fanfarria como intro, al estilo Emerson, Lake & Palmer ó Asia, en “The looks of a winner”. El teclista Filip Kuzanski se luce en todo el disco como un campeón con sus pulcros y limpios teclados. Voz nítida, fina y bonita de Jamie Beckham que contrasta con la voz masculina y sensible del guitarrista Manuel Heller. Un guitarrista que, por lo que escucho, es un fan total de Eddie Van Halen y de Steve Lukather. Gran canción que saldrá como single, con batería muy revoltosa y de sonido cristalino.
Siguen con “Blame it on the night” que es una maravilla, marchosa y eléctrica, de coros y ritmo Wimp AOR. Toda la canción es un delicioso estribillo interminable. “Sophie” enamora, te mira a los ojos y te derrite, sus sueños se cumplirán y ya tiene una hermosa canción que lleva su nombre y es el primer single…. Por momentos la personalidad y la garra de Lita Ford hacen presencia en la cantante, entre guitarras, abundantes teclados, pulsaciones de Eric Hart al bajo y percusiones continuas del invitado Frank Dapper.
Samantha Fox!!!!! Violet tocan una canción de Samantha Fox!!!! ¡Y ya mismo será el segundo single!!!!!!!! Se me desencajan los huesos con “Do ya do ya (wanna please me)” en onda Hard Rock y cantada con mucha decisión. Atención al nivel de los solos de guitarra en todas las canciones de mi tocayo Manuel. Pop Rock celestial y azucarado, juvenil y adolescente, se hace llamar “Francine”. Con teclado de juguete, aparición de saxo nostálgico y muy tierno, tema que contiene una voz angelical.
Tema atmosférico mientras visitas un observatorio astrofísico, así me siento con “Burning May”. Orgasmo de voces a dúo y viene a mi memoria el genio Jeff Cannata. Las guitarras y teclas intergalácticas me hacen ver todo de color violeta. Ahora, en “Only love” todo es muy happy y el solo de guitarra se viene arriba, es verano y está canción te refresca de verdad. Suenan todas las influencias antes mencionadas. Este tema de banda sonora con un buen videoclip arrasaría entre los seguidores AOR.
¡Rock guitar!!!!Rock drums!!!! Mi favorita por compleja y a la vez directa. “Cover model” cantada con expresividad, bien modulada y moldeada al estilo particular de Robby Valentine. Da igual la edad que tengas, se te repite la adolescencia escuchando a Violet. Saxo demoledor y romántico, saltarines teclados como campanillas y conversación cantada a dúo en la última canción “Run away”. El espíritu de Roxette enlaza las voces y el saxo habla y dice la última palabra.
Llegados al final de este debut “Illusions”, no sé el nivel de éxito que alcanzarán, pero si es cierto que Violet han hecho el disco que deseaban. Reconozco que este estilo tiene un poder hipnotizador y un efecto Hi-tech accesible en sus arreglos musicales que lo hace adorable en la escucha.
Por unos minutos el loco mundo universal se paró, se creó la ilusión, se hizo la paz, llegó la inocencia, surgió el joven inmortal que todos llevamos dentro y bailé…. El mundo de color violeta se ve y se siente mucho mejor.

Well, I’ll start with the first thing you see, the cover and the logo. The design is eloquent and the concept is clear and defined, very retro. Geometry, Galaxy, Stars, Planets and lots of colors reflecting on a plane of Violet beauty.
I feel teleported from the first second, it seems that a song by Europe is going to play and they open with a fanfare as an intro, in the style of Emerson, Lake & Palmer or Asia, in “The looks of a winner”. Keyboardist Filip Kuzanski shines throughout the album like a winner with his neat and clean keyboards. Clear, fine and beautiful voice of Jamie Beckham that contrasts with the masculine and sensitive voice of guitarist Manuel Heller. A guitarist who, from what I hear, is a total fan of Eddie Van Halen and Steve Lukather. Great song that will be released as a single, with very unruly drums and crystal clear sound.
They continue with “Blame it on the night” which is wonderful, lively and electric, with choirs and Wimp AOR rhythm. The whole song is a delicious endless chorus. “Sophie” falls in love, looks you in the eyes and melts you, her dreams will come true and she already has a beautiful song that bears her name and it is the first single…. At times the personality and the claw of Lita Ford are present in the singer, between guitars, abundant keyboards, Eric Hart’s pulsations on the bass and continuous percussions from the guest Frank Dapper.
Samantha Fox!!!!! Violet play a Samantha Fox song!!!! And right now it will be the second single!!!!!!!! My bones shake with “Do ya do ya (wanna please me)” in Hard Rock vibe and sung with great decision. Attention to the level of the guitar solos in all the songs of my namesake Manuel. The intergalactic guitars and keys make me see everything in purple. Now, in «Only love» everything is very happy and the guitar solo comes up, it’s summer and this song really refreshes you. All the aforementioned influences sound. This soundtrack theme with a good video clip would sweep the AOR fans.
Rock guitar!!!!Rock drums!!!! My favorite for complex and at the same time direct. “Cover model” sung with expressiveness, well modulated and shaped in the particular style of Robby Valentine. It doesn’t matter how old you are, adolescence repeats itself listening to Violet. Demolishing and romantic sax, jumping keyboards like bells and conversation sung as a duet in the last song “Run away”. Roxette’s spirit links the voices and the saxophone speaks and says the last word.
At the end of this debut “Illusions”, I don’t know the level of success they will achieve, but it is true that Violet have made the album they wanted. I recognize that this style has a hypnotizing power and an accessible Hi-tech effect in its musical arrangements that makes it adorable to listen to.
For a few minutes the crazy universal world stopped, the illusion was created, peace was made, innocence arrived, the young immortal that we all carry inside emerged and I danced…. The violet world looks and feels so much better.
