Stan Bush. Qué decir de uno de los más icónicos solistas de A.O.R. Ïcónico, entre otras razones, por haber sido en varias ocasiones reclutado para bandas sonoras de películas como “Transformers” (“The touch”, que también apareció en “Boogie nights” o en episodios de “The Goldberg” o “American Dad” – no descarto que también haga su incursión en “Los Simpson” en alguna ocasión-) en otra de las secuelas de los robots alienígenas o en películas de Jean Claude Van Damme.
Un premio Emmy en 1997, canciones en los Juegos Olímpicos (1996) y un largo etcétera de discos bajo su nombre o con Barrage. En este caso, podríamos recapitular que este nuevo disco, “Dare to dream” es otro disco más de Stan Bush, en otras palabras: Stan Bush, o fidelidad y calidad A.O.R. clásico. Y por supuesto, con una canción que se incluye en una serie de anime, como es “Baki” en Netflix (no olvidemos que colaboró en la adaptación de alguna serie japonesa, como fue “Sailor moon”). Pero como no sería justo dejar de bucear en este álbum número catorce, por mucho que de principio a fin no defraude, vamos a meternos en el neopreno y nos vamos a atrever a soñar… Con ser un Jaques Cousteau musical.
“Born to fight” abre este disco y es la canción elegida para poner banda sonora a esas dos series japonesas en la oferta de Netflix. Los teclados ya anuncian con lo que nos vamos a encontrar en el desarrollo del disco; melodías reconocibles de la marca Stan Bush, sentimiento y fuerza canalizada bajo las premisas del A.O.R. más fideligno.
“Dare to dream” nos invita a surcar la vida con optimismo y positividad. Una canción que me recuerda en algo a esos cortes del disco junto a Jonathan Cain, “Every beat of my heart”. “The times of your life”, nos envuelve con un ambiente intimista en el que la sentimentalidad se dibuja en su estribillo con esa energía controlada en la voz de Stan Bush. Un puente que nos devuelve a ese ambiente principal que marca la canción.
Bajamos a más profundidad con “A dream of love”, atrapados por el balancear de los arpegios de guitarra en este medio tiempo, que se turba arremolinado en su estribillo, con fuerza y comercialidad a partes iguales. Un solo que nos retrotrae a ese sonido de canciones “power ballad” de mediados de los 80.
Y hablando de los 80, “The 80’s” ya fue el primer adelanto de este disco el año pasado con un videoclip (en el que, a mi modo de ver, claro… Le faltaba un casting más creíble o una indumentaria y peinados más acorde con la época…) Una canción, en la que quitando la intro “retro wave”, rezuma “Animal” de Def Leppard en los arreglos de guitarra en el estribillo, con esos palm mute “made in Phill Collen” y esos acordes lanzados con delay con los que combinaba las partes rítmicas Steve Clark. Incluso el coro “oh, ooh!” del estribillo es un claro homenaje a ese gran single de “Hysteria”. Esta es una de esas claras canciones en las que a Stan Bush (esta es una percepción muy personal…) le encuadro, desde que le escuché por primera vez, en un trio de voces, a las que yo denomino “The voice of America”: Stan Bush, Sammy Hagar y Dave Meniketti. Transmiten el espíritu de Libertad “made in USA” en su voz.
“Live and breathe” relaja el disco sobre las ondas creadas por el piano en esas aguas de intensidad melancólica de las grandes baladas compuestas por Stan y esos horizontes de atardeceres armónicos en las melodías previas al estribillo. “Heat of attack”, es otra de esas canciones que bien se hubieran podido incluir en alguna película de acción de Jean Claude Van Damme, (o Jean Claude Van Johnson – aprovechando la mención, una serie de Amazon Prime, la cual recomiendo desde aquí, por el registro del personaje de JCVD-) por su ambiente y musicalidad.
“Dream big” nos vuelve a llenar los oídos de teclados épicos, en una canción que expande energía positiva, como grandes olas en las que dejarnos engullir golpeando el neopreno de los altavoces o auriculares a un volumen alto. Un solo que surfea antes de otra nueva ola de estribillos potentes y vivaces, que nos piden surfear en ese solo infinito del final. “True believer” nos vuelva a sumergir a profundidades alcanzadas por aquel batiscafo del mítico Cousteau, en las procelosas aguas del A.O.R. con climax, sentimiento y autenticidad de la época gloriosa del Rock melódico, incluyendo esos toques de “teatralidad” sonora en algunos retazos, como en el estribillo o los solor de guitarra.
Otro aldabonazo de A.O.R. Un tema divertido, acordes de teclado y estribillos que nos elevan como a un delfin sobre las aguas oceánicas, es este título que lo dice todo: “Never give up” (never surrender). Una canción que seguro nos hace olvidar la peor película de ciencia ficción que estamos viviendo en esta distopía hecha realidad. Dicen que la música es la medicina del alma: He aquí una dosis. Una dosis a voluntad del paciente.
Y finalmente, tocamos tierra, de vuelta a casa con este “Home”, mientras dejamos atrás la costa sonora en nuestro auto, con un arco iris de fondo, en este medio tiempo precioso, con el que Stan Bush pone banda sonora a cualquier momento de calma que queramos disfrutar, con la inestimable ayuda de esa guitarra que dibuja sobre el lienzo animado de la base músical. Estribillos que ponen el broche a este disco. A este buen disco.
Este próximo 20 de noviembre, se lanza este nuevo disco que continúa la historia sonora de este grande del A.O.R. Una portada muy bien ilustrada que nos invita a embarcarnos en esa nao desde la que Stan Bush lanza esos aldabonazos musicales cada vez que edita un nuevo disco y por supuesto, un sonido y una producción en la que no podemos encontrar ninguna sombra. Quizá no sea muy objetivo, pero viniendo de Stan Bush, este disco no se merece menos.

But since it wouldn’t be fair to stop diving into this fourteenth album, as much as it doesn’t disappoint from beginning to end, we are going to get into the wetsuit and we are going to dare to dream… of being a musical Jacques Cousteau.
“Born to fight” opens this album and is the song chosen to put the soundtrack to these two Japanese series on the Netflix offer. The keyboards already announce what we are going to find in the development of the album; recognizable melodies of the Stan Bush brand, feeling and force channeled under the premises of the most faithful AOR. «Dare to dream» invites us to navigate life with optimism and positivity. A song that reminds me somewhat of those cuts from the album with Jonathan Cain, “Every beat of my heart”.
«The times of your life», surrounds us with an intimate atmosphere in which sentimentality is drawn in its chorus with that controlled energy in Stan Bush’s voice. A bridge that returns us to that main atmosphere that marks the song. We went deeper with “A dream of love”, caught by the swaying of the guitar arpeggios in this halftime, which is disturbed swirled in its chorus, with strength and commerciality in equal measure. A solo that takes us back to that sound of “power ballad” songs from the mid-80s.
And speaking of the 80’s, «The 80’s» was already the first preview of this album last year with a video clip (in which, in my opinion, of course … It lacked a more credible casting or more appropriate clothing and hairstyles with the time …) A song, in which removing the intro «retro wave», «Animal» by Def Leppard oozes in the guitar arrangements in the chorus, with those palm mutes «made in Phill Collen» and those chords thrown with delay with which Steve Clark combined rhythmic parts. Even the chorus «oh, ooh!» of the chorus is a clear tribute to that great single from “Hysteria”. This is one of those clear songs in which Stan Bush (this is a very personal perception…) I frame, since I first heard him, in a trio of voices, which I call «The voice of America» : Stan Bush, Sammy Hagar and Dave Meniketti.
«Live and breathe» relaxes the album on the waves created by the piano in those waters of melancholic intensity of the great ballads composed by Stan and those horizons of harmonic sunsets in the melodies before the chorus.
«Heat of attack», is another of those songs that could well have been included in an action movie by Jean Claude Van Damme, (or Jean Claude Van Johnson – taking advantage of the mention, an Amazon Prime series, which I recommend from here , for the record of the character of JCVD-) for its atmosphere and musicality. “Dream big” fills our ears with epic keyboards once again, in a song that expands positive energy, like big waves to be engulfed by hitting the neoprene of the speakers or headphones at a high volume. A solo that surfs before another new wave of powerful and lively choruses, which ask us to surf in that infinite solo at the end.
«True believer» plunges us back to the depths reached by that bathyscaphe of the mythical Cousteau, in the stormy waters of the AOR with climax, feeling and authenticity of the glorious era of melodic Rock, including those touches of sound «theatricality» in some snippets, as in the chorus or the guitar solor. Another knock from AOR A fun theme, keyboard chords and refrains that lift us like a dolphin over ocean waters, is this title that says it all: “Never give up” (never surrender). A song that surely makes us forget the worst science fiction movie we are living in this dystopia come true. They say that music is the medicine of the soul: Here is a dose. One dose at the patient’s discretion.
And finally, we make landfall, back home with this «Home«, while we leave behind the sonorous coast in our car, with a rainbow in the background, in this precious halftime, with which Stan Bush puts a soundtrack at any time calm that we want to enjoy, with the invaluable help of that guitar that he draws on the animated canvas of the musical base. Choruses that put the finishing touch on this album. To this good album.
This next November 20, this new album is launched that continues the sound story of this great AOR A very well illustrated cover that invites us to embark on that ship from which Stan Bush throws those musical knockers every time he publishes a new album and of course, a sound and a production in which we cannot find any shadow. It may not be very objective, but coming from Stan Bush, this album does not deserve less than 90% out of 100.
