Cuando lo que tenemos delante es una banda con un magnífico álbum debut y mucha expectativa generada alrededor del segundo, la mitad de la apuesta está ganada. Arctic Rain se reinventan dejando marchar al magnífico de Pete Alpenborg, quien se encargaba de parte de la composición además de los teclados. Nos hacen entrega de una pieza espléndida de principio a fin, que sigue encandilándome con las trabajadas partes de voces y guitarras, a cargo de Tobias Jonsson y Magnus Berglund respectivamente. Quizás el uso de la portada con foto del grupo se deba a esta actualización de la formación.
Si esta humilde pulsadora de teclas puede aportar algo a quienes estéis por escuchar el trabajo, es el consejo de experimentarlo con los temas en forma desordenada, aleatoria. Y eso es posible solo gracias al encanto de una banda que, pese a su corto recorrido como tal, sabe aplicar con magistral eficacia las técnicas de lo aprendido por los reyes de la radio de los años ochenta y noventa, tal como nos cuenta en «Kings of the radio», de inicio bonjoviano y agudos imposibles.
Son temas como «One World», «Peace of mind» o «When we were young» los que insuflan energía y dan ganas de comerte el mundo, como cuando estabas en aquella etapa de tu vida en que tus héroes eran los que sonaban en la radio.
Otras partes del disco te acercarán los reyes a tus auriculares o altavoces, haciendo que suenen actualizados respetuosamente, como Talisman en «Unity» o Journey (más concretamente la parte Castronovo) en «Fire in my eyes». Tras identificar esos sonidos de antaño tan extraordinariamente puestos al día me quedo con chispitas en los ojos. No, no es una lágrima, es que tengo alergia.
Pero si acudías al disco en busca de hechizos que te cautivaran, la encontrarás en la lluvia de estrellas en forma de solo de guitarra en «Laughing on the Rain», así como en la fabulosa evolución de «Believe». No hace falta que nadie les enseñe a hacer baladas de las que calan, sentencia el toque prog incluido en «The road goes on».
Acostumbrada a escuchar que enero era el mes de los Reyes Magos, jamás me imaginé que esa afirmación aplicaba al hard rock melódico. Encanto, optimismo y virtuosismo es lo que se esconde detrás de este segundo trabajo de Arctic Rain. Ideal para personas que gusten de cantar los temas a base de buena melodía, sin dejar de lado las guitarras potentes y los teclados que empujan a brillar al resto de instrumentos.
