Mikael Rosengren es un músico inquieto que ha puesto su talento al servicio de nombres como Dirty Passion, Revolverlution o los siempre reivindicables Bai Bang. Después de años de constantes giras alrededor del mundo consideró llegado el momento de poner en marcha su propia banda, un proyecto personal en el que dar forma al sonido que bullía en su cabeza.
Para ello no dudó en hacerse con los servicios de todo un todoterreno de la voz como es el inigualable Herbie Langhans (Firewind, Avantasia, Voodoo Circle…), capaz por sí solo de atraer la atención sobre cualquier proyecto en el que participe y con quien conforma un poderoso tándem que da sus frutos en este primer trabajo.
Un debut cocinado a fuego lento y hecho con pasión, que no dejará a nadie indiferente y en el que nos ofrecen un ejercicio de heavy metal en su más pura esencia, sin trampa ni cartón, de aquel que forjaron en el fuego abrasador de los años 80 leyendas de la talla de Accept, Judas Priest o Dio. Y precisamente de este último y de su venerado “Holy Diver” hay mucho en “Rhino Attack”, el tema con el que despegan y que se graba a fuego en tu cabeza, con la voz de Langhans copando buena parte del protagonismo. Que a estas alturas una banda debutante consiga sorprender con un corte de heavy clásico, sin sonar impostados y con personalidad, nos da ya una idea de su inmenso potencial. Una canción realmente especial y a mi juicio la que mejor define su propuesta, el perfecto himno guerrero que puede y debe abrirles muchos caminos en el futuro.
Después de semejante arranque uno sólo puede dejarse llevar por “Arrival”, que no baja las revoluciones, aunque sin descuidar la melodía. Y es que el gusto por las melodías es otro de sus puntos fuertes, que alcanza su máxima expresión en cortes que muestran una vertiente más hard rock, si bien manteniendo el halo épico que envuelve al conjunto, como “Lovin’ Easy” o “Boom Boom”, que funcionó como el single que dio a conocer el proyecto.
Con todo, el espíritu es claramente deudor del metal más añejo y ortodoxo, y nuevamente aflora en “Steel Rhino”, que se hace fuerte en torno a un afilado riff de reminiscencias priestianas y “Bells Of Midnight”, que parece invocar nuevamente la memoria del viejo Ronnie James Dio, si bien en esta ocasión en su vertiente más pesada y profunda, casi melancólica. Si escuchamos cortes como éstos y nos dicen que han sido grabados en 1983 no nos sorprendería, hasta ese punto tienen interiorizado el sonido que aman, si bien también hay concesiones a texturas más modernas, como ese riff seco y cortante de “Sands Of Time”.
Hay en la unión de estos dos talentos algo de hermandad, de fraternidad metálica que vive su lucha como una cruzada, y eso se plasma en “Fire And Ice”, otra pequeña joya de metal melódico con vocación de himno y, sobretodo, en “Life We Choose”, testimonio de tantas vivencias en la carretera y celebración del estilo de vida elegido.
Qué duda cabe que hacer algo desde el corazón marca la diferencia y que se nota cuando algo se gesta desde la pasión, cuando algo es el fruto de mucho tiempo de soñarlo y trabajarlo. Este álbum es un buen ejemplo de ello. Escuchándolo es fácil adivinar qué mueve a Mikael Rosengren, y si en este ejercicio de honestidad cuenta con aliados como Langhans el resultado no puede ser mejor.
Un trabajo contundente, dinámico y fresco, hecho para disfrutar. Conviene seguirles la pista.

Mikael Rosengren is a restless musician who has put his talent at the service of names like Dirty Passion, Revolverlution or the always vindicable Bai Bang. After years of constant touring around the world he considered the time had come to start his own band, a personal project in which to shape the sound that was bubbling in his head.
For this he did not hesitate to get the services of an all-rounder of the voice such as the unique Herbie Langhans (Firewind, Avantasia, Voodoo Circle…), capable by himself of attracting attention to any project in which he participates and with whom forms a powerful tandem that pays off in this first job.
A debut cooked over low heat and made with passion, which will not leave anyone indifferent and in which they offer us an exercise of heavy metal in its purest essence, without cheating or cardboard, of the one they forged in the scorching fire of the years 80 legends of the stature of Accept, Judas Priest or Dio. And precisely from the latter and from his revered “Holy Diver” there is a lot in “Rhino Attack”, the song with which they take off and that burns into your head, with Langhans’ voice taking over a good part of the limelight. That at this point a newcomer band manages to surprise with a classic heavy cut, without sounding impossive and with personality, already gives us an idea of its immense potential. A really special song and in my opinion the one that best defines their proposal, the perfect warrior anthem that can and should open many paths for them in the future.
After such a start one can only get carried away by “Arrival”, which does not slow down, although without neglecting the melody. And is that the taste for melodies is another of its strengths, which reaches its maximum expression in cuts that show a more hard rock side, while maintaining the epic halo that surrounds the whole, such as “Lovin ‘Easy” or “Boom Boom”, which worked as the single that unveiled the project.
However, the spirit is clearly indebted to the oldest and most orthodox metal, and again emerges in «Steel Rhino», which becomes strong around a sharp riff of priestly reminiscences and «Bells Of Midnight», which seems to invoke the memory again of old Ronnie James Dio, although this time in its heaviest and deepest, almost melancholic aspect. If we listen to tracks like these and they tell us that they were recorded in 1983 we would not be surprised, up to that point they have internalized the sound they love, although there are also concessions to more modern textures, like that dry and cutting riff of «Sands Of Time».
There is in the union of these two talents something of brotherhood, of metallic brotherhood that lives their struggle like a crusade, and that is reflected in “Fire And Ice”, another little jewel of melodic metal with a vocation as a hymn and, above all, in “Life We Choose”, testimony of so many experiences on the road and celebration of the chosen lifestyle.
There is no doubt that doing something from the heart makes a difference and that it shows when something is born from passion, when something is the fruit of a long time of dreaming and working on it. This album is a good example of this. Listening to him it is easy to guess what moves Mikael Rosengren, and if in this exercise of honesty he has allies like Langhans the result cannot be better.
A forceful, dynamic and fresh work, made to enjoy. It is convenient to keep track of them.
