Sweet Oblivion es un proyecto encabezado por Geoff Tate ex-vocalista de Queensrÿche y creado por Frontiers Records con la idea de dotar al cantante americano (nacido en Alemania) unas composiciones que puedan en cierto modo evocar su pasado musical.
La producción y composición de este segundo álbum ha corrido a cargo de Aldo Lonobile (Secret Sphere, Timo Tolkki’s Avalon, Archon Angel) mientras que en su primer trabajo homónimo fue Simone Mularoni de DGM.
Particularmente me parece poco procedente compararlo con obras como “Empire” u “Operation Mindcrime” pero sí debo decir que me ha despertado más de una sonrisa y satisfacción auditiva a lo largo de todo el álbum.
Hay guiños más que evidentes a Queensrÿche que cualquier fan de la banda descubrirá pronto.
“Relentless” lo componen 10 temas con una duración total de 43 minutos con unas composiciones con unas estructuras nada complejas en donde Tate se desenvuelve como pez en el agua, destacaría “Once Again One Sin” el corte encargado de abrir el álbum, muy fácil de digerir, directo y marcando de alguna forma el camino musical del álbum, el tercer corte “Let It Be” contiene mucha esencia de lo que fueron Queensrÿche, quizás más de la que ofrece la propia banda actualmente…ojo también al cuarto corte “Another Change” uno de los más representativos y pegadizos del álbum.
En definitiva, un álbum que merece y mucho la pena degustar de principio a fin… yo lo seguiré haciendo.

Sweet Oblivion is a project headed by Geoff Tate ex-Queensrÿche vocalist and created by Frontiers Records with the idea of endowing the American singer (born in Germany) with compositions that can in a way evoke his musical past.
The production and composition of this second album has been carried out by Aldo Lonobile (Secret Sphere, Timo Tolkki’s Avalon, Archon Angel) while his first homonymous work was Simone Mularoni from DGM. In particular, I find it inappropriate to compare it with works like “Empire” or “Operation Mindcrime” but I must say that it has awakened more than one smile and listening satisfaction throughout the album.
There are more than obvious nods to Queensrÿche that any fan of the band will soon discover. “Relentless” is made up of 10 songs with a total duration of 43 minutes with compositions with not very complex structures where Tate unfolds like a fish in water.
“Once Again One Sin” would highlight the cut in charge of opening the album, very easy to digest, direct and in some way marking the musical path of the album, the third track “Let It Be” contains a lot of essence of what Queensrÿche was, perhaps more than what the band itself currently offers… also look at the fourth track “Another Change” one of the most representative and catchy of the album.
In short, an album that deserves and is well worth tasting from beginning to end… I will continue to do so.
